The ACT3 in-house research team is led by Dr. Hamilton Clouse (Scott) and Dr. Jared Culbertson, and includes partners from Academia, Government, and Industry. The group’s background is diverse, with extensive depth in areas of machine learning, planning, natural language processing, and machine vision. The primary goal of the research team is to create science that will enable systems that exhibit specific behavioral characteristics, as described in depth in Autonomous Horizons: The Way Forward (ß MAKE A HYPERLINK). The behavioral characteristics we seek are peer flexibility, task flexibility, and cognitive flexibility. It is our belief that, systems that exhibit such behaviors, will truly be autonomous.
Our current problem domain is that of conversational systems. There are significant challenges to adapting such systems to meet the demands of the conversing Agents, whether human-software or software-software conversations. Currently, we are working the former where the intent is to allow a user communicate with their corporate multi-modal data.
